Margo's Mom
>> Thursday, February 7, 2008
Yesterday, Margo's mom took a nasty fall that sent her to the hospital. It turns out that she broke her femur; she's having surgery today to put in a rod and rebuild her leg. But the doctor also told Margo that it's likely a pathologic break caused by diseased bone.He said that at her age, the most probable explanation is a metastatic tumor -- spread from tumor(s) elsewhere in the body. Such a large bone does not usually break without this kind of explanation.
So after today's surgery, she'll have 3 to 5 days in the hospital. Then they're going to begin exploring for the tumor(s). Margo is working on getting out to Kentucky to be with her mom as quickly as possible, and perhaps taking one of the kids with her for company on the road.
We'd appreciate prayers that there will be some other, less traumatic, explanation for this diseased femur break, as well as prayers for our family as we figure out how to manage all the sudden changes another unexpected trip brings.
And, of course, prayers are always welcome for my dad as he continues to grieve the loss of my mom. The lonely emptiness of it all is setting in, and we pray for his encouragement.
