Hairspray!

One of our family's New Year's Eve traditions is to pull our mattresses or sleeping bags into the family room, snuggle up in warm PJs, and watch old movies together. In the past I always tried to choose classics like The African Queen or Gone With the Wind (ask Ben some time about what he thinks of that film). But after dragging the kids through 2001: A Space Odyssey and Citizen Kane, I finally caved in to the pressure to find films that are more fun and lively.
Well, since we're breaking tradition and spending the evening at a friend's house tonight, we watched our movie last night -- Hairspray. What a blast! My toes are still tapping this morning. The film is such a feel-good flick with totally loveable characters, my face was actually a bit sore from smiling the whole way through the film. What a wonderful message about defying discrimination and loving people just the way they are. And I don't think I'll ever see John Travolta the same again; his performance as the mom was terrific!

My daughter, Lydia, got this movie for Christmas. We all watched it together and loved it too. It was a fun movie.
I much prefer John Travolta in, let's say, Grease. Much more manly.
