Psalms From Hope

>> Tuesday, June 5, 2007

Last Sunday at Hope, we talked about worship being an overflow of our intimacy with God. It's not so much a task that we do but a response that bubbles over. For homework, I challenged our church family to compose a psalm of their own to the Lord — a personal expression of praise. And I promised to post them anonymously here on the blog. Some are by adults; several are by children. One of them is even a song set to music (so it's missing something here without hearing the melody, but God has heard it.) All are pure and personal, and I'm sure God takes great delight as his people compose their praise. Here are the ones I've received so far. (I took the liberties to correct any typos, hoping nobody would mind.) I'll add another batch later in the week.

There's nowhere I can be, Lord
where I can not see
the beauty of your majesty
I see it written on every tree.

From every mountain top
to the bottom of the sea.
I know you're every where, Lord
because You are all I see.

I see you in every flower
and in every human being.

I give you all my praise, Lord.
You're the creator of everything.

I love Jesus. He is the Savior to everyone.
We love him and he loves us.
He is the light to my path and the light to my feet.
We can help others and he can help us.

Oh Lord my God, thou art my God.
Bless me today, O Lord,
for I have not in me Love.
Teach me, O Lord, to love myself
so that I may love my family,
love unconditionally
my wife and your children.
But more importantly
You, O Lord.

At times I drift aimlessly
in search of that feeling.
Help me to understand your depths,
so I might pour out with an over flowing heart
to all that stand before me.

Wonderful you are,
who holds me in the palm of his hands
all the day long.
Help me to see the here and now
and to enter in to your presence.
Show me your cloak as you once showed Moses.
Let me be filled with your light
so that I might radiate your awesome strength and gentleness,
not for me, O Lord, but for you,
for you Lord, that your spirit be known
to the hardest of hearts
and your truths be revealed
to those who mistrust.

God I'm seeking and I'm finding you.
You're my God, my Lord, my savior, too.
I was weak but now I'm strong.
I was lost but now I'm found in you, my Lord.
God, God, you're my Lord, my God.
My, my, oh my Lord,
I just can't get over it:
You are so powerful, you are so strong!
Thank you for creating me.
Thank, thank, thank you, Lord!
Bless me today, O Lord. Amen.

Chorus:
The God who created us
lives inside our hearts

Refrain:
He is good
yes, the Lord is good
He is in control

Why do you slumber?
Awake from your stillness,
You who lies in the darkness of sleep.
A restless sea rages about you:
No peaceful waters; only the dark and deep
That keeps you away from your home.

See? The sun shines far above you,
Like a star that is shining so far off.
Like one caught in the rain and the gloom
Are you seeking the light?
Like a bud that’s about to bloom?
But you are not yet home.

Come, rise and rejoice!
Let the thunder be your alarm.
Stir in your bed and shake off the doubt.
Rise and rejoice in song.
Lift up your voice and cry out
For you are not yet home.

Call to the Father
And he will rouse you with strength.
No more will you falter in the night.
Call to the Father
And he will set you in the light
And point your way home.
