Let It Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!

Margo and I were puttering around our bedroom getting ready this morning when she looked out the window and said, "Scott! Look! It's snowing!" Sure enough, those beautiful white flakes were falling softly from the sky. It may not seem like a big deal to those who already live where it turns white, but this is the first time in 11 years that we've lived where it snows. There's this wonderful, quiet hush everywhere as the ground slowly fades to white. I enjoyed the cold on my face as we spread a little de-icer on the driveway (that steep slope still spooks me -- I guess I'll find out tonight how bad it gets in slippery weather). The dog was running around the yard barking and giddy with the falling snow. Truly beautiful!

Of course, I saw three (!) rollover accidents on my way to work this morning. And the guy in the car behind me seemed to think it must be safer if his front bumper was no more than six inches away from my car the whole drive. (Grrr.) I called Margo several times and encouraged her to allow a lot of extra time as she runs the kids all over town for school stuff today.

They're saying one to three inches by tonight. Good thing we bought snow shovels last weekend! Wheeeee!

I had a similar experience when I woke up. I was lying there watching the morning news and then looked out the window. I too was excited to see the snow. I have always lived in an area that gets snow, but every single time it snows it's like I'm seeing it for the first time. It's just beautiful when everything is white.

I thought of your family and how excited you must be. You have a great hill to sled down. You're never too old to sled.

Have fun!

I am a little green eyed reading your blog. I really miss the snow and colder temps. I don't miss the crazy drivers, icy roads and -10 below temps. As I grow more in my faith, I see God's love in nature. Seeing the turkeys, deer, and rabbit make tracts in the snow. Letting the snowflakes dance on your eyelashes. Oh and most important the family snowball fight which results in someone taking a face plant. Plus the cold weather brings on the comfort foods: chili, beef stew, and a big mug of tea/coffee. The ultimate is then heading inside to defrost in front of a real fire. Not the fake fireplaces either...

I decided to head home a little early yesterday; I wasn't sure what the roads would become as it continued snowing. I'm really glad I did! Margo had the same idea, so she pulled into the driveway just a few moments before I did. As we all piled out of the cars, the kids started grabbing snow and throwing it around, the dog came bounding out of the house to play with us, and we had an absolute blast! Then it was hot chocolate as we warmed up inside. I brought my laptop home and had a pretty productive afternoon working on next Sunday's message while all curled up in the oversized chair by the fire, watching the snow fall outside, sipping cocoa... Ah...

Honestly, Pastor John, I just can't understand why you don't love this. (Then again, at the end of our time in Chicago and Nebraska I wasn't too keen on the snow, either. Perhaps I'll grow to resent those little white flakes from the sky one day, too...)

Pictures...Pictures...I need pictures!!!! And you had better have some Christmas lights on that beautiful home of yours! Ever since I saw the first picture of your new home, all that I could think of was a snow topped roof and Christmas lights. We are so happy for you guys! We have been experiencing the worst, most disgusting brown cloud over the city. It literally looks poopy outside!!! No parcipition falling, only particulates! Looking forward to another small front to move through this weekend to give us a couple of days being to see the wonderful mountains around us!
