Here Comes Santa Claus!
>> Sunday, December 9, 2007
Margo came to me this evening and asked if I could hear all the sirens. Apparently there were Emergency Service Vehicles running about the neighborhood, and Margo feared that they were looking for some address and couldn't find it or something. Ah, but the truth was so much sweeter!
It seems that every December our local Fire Department tours our neighborhood -- the big fire trucks, ambulances, and more -- all escorting none other than Santa Claus himself! There he was, chauffered in a golf cart blinking with Christmas lights, right in the middle of the parade. Lights and sirens blaring, the procession makes its way up every street and down every cul-de-sac, beckoning to the neighborhood kids to come out and meet the Jolly Old Elf. With a wave and a smile and a gift of a fresh candy cane, St. Nick brings cheer in a very special and surprising way. The excitement and looks on the faces of the children on our block was really heart-warming.
I just love living in our new community! I mean... WOW!

Isn't that cool? We live just through the woods from your neighborhood and we get to see the slightest glimpse of the parade, each year, through the trees.
We were at our neighbors tonight and he thought there was some major accident in the area until we told him that this goes on every year.
I'm thrilled that you enjoyed it so much.
Ho, Ho, Ho! And a 'Merry Christmas' to all!
It's so neat to see what kind of new traditions your new neighborhood celebrates! :) Was Blossom freaked out by all of the sirens though? :) Thanks for sharing!
Bizzare. So, I'm off to San Rafael right now (Friday morning). I work there at a homeless shelter. And my brother works over in Hayward. He's transitioning from his carpentry gig in Berkeley to a teaching position (art) at a high school there.
I was in Virginia this summer, on the Appalachian Trail. Beautiful country!
