Long Distance Hugs

>> Wednesday, October 24, 2007

Yesterday was a very special day. Mallory Mayes entered the world at 8:17 AM, weighing in at just over 9 pounds. I spoke with Daddy Dan shortly after the birth, and I could hear the incredible joy in his voice. I wish I could be there to wrap my arms around this beautiful family and celebrate with them! I'm looking forward to meeting their littlest delight someday; I've been praying for her for several months now already.

One of the hardest things about moving away from an old life and embracing the new adventure God has for us has been the miles between us and so many people that we love. It's an odd, aching sort of emotion, and there's really nothing to be done about it. But my thoughts and my love are with friends and family so often, and I'm allowing those thoughts to bring me to moments of prayer and seeking God's blessing on their behalf.

Because, after all, even though I might be far away, the same Lord who is here with me right now is also there at the Mayes' home pouring out his joy. So maybe 2300 miles isn't that big of a distance after all...

It is but a breath of wind; His Spirit knits us so close we are often in the experience...I have learned time and again ~ bless you, Pastor...and the newest little baby you have shared.
