A Little Jealous
>> Friday, October 5, 2007
Our friends over at Warrenton Bible Fellowship are in for a treat this Sunday, and I'm a little jealous. Al Menconi will be sharing in their services (www.almenconi.com).
A little over 2 decades ago, I spent a weekend at an Al Menconi event in Walnut Creek, California. In many ways, that weekend changed my life. Al challenged me to consider my choices of music and entertainment, and to take seriously the holiness of God. It was at a time when I was privately going through confusion and doubts, struggling with the abundant hypocrisy of believers without realizing that I was quickly becoming one of the hypocrites. Al helped me to pause and think about where my life was going. I later had some private time with Al to share what I was experiencing and to purge myself of some of the darkness that had creeped in.
I've heard Al speak a couple of times since then, and I read his articles from time to time. He's a terrific guy who has couragously shined a spotlight on some of the most subtle (and not-so-subtle) infiltrations of our spiritual Enemy into our culture, and warned followers of Christ to be on guard and pursue purity.
Pastor Kuvakas and his wife have graciously invited us to enjoy lunch with them and Al after church on Sunday (well, okay... I kind of invited myself but John agreed...), and I'm really looking forward to it!
