A Patriot
>> Wednesday, September 12, 2007
Yesterday, on September 11, I was driving down Highway 211 on my way to the office. There, in the middle of the grassy divider between eastbound and westbound lanes, stood a patriot. He was mounted on a dappled white horse, wearing a cowboy hat, and carrying an American flag. He was a stoic reminder of the tragedy that so many people have forgotten over the past six years. I found myself getting choked up as I passed by him, impressed with his display of patriotism. Then, on my way home nearly 10 hours later, he was still there -- still looking off to the horizon, still sitting tall in the saddle, still holding the flag high.

My name is Scott Heine, and I'm on a life-long journey to become more like Jesus and to share his life-changing love with others. I'm the Pastor of Hope Christian Fellowship in Warrenton, Virginia — a great church family full of terrific people. My wife, Margo, and I have three teenage kids: Benjamin, Elizabeth, and Rebecca, along with a couple of spoiled English Springer Spaniels named Dixie & Rose.

Hi Scott,
That same guy was there last year on election day. There was another in Warrenton on the corner where Sheetz is.
Don't know him or his story though.
His name is Forrest Wharton, of Castleton VA. His horse's name is Zeke. He is a stone mason who had a sister-in-law in the Pentagon that day (who survived). His quote was that the tragedy "hit awfully close to home" and he offers his support of our homeland. His pic was in the paper Wed as well.
Hey there Scott,
Margo sent a copy of this picture to us and shared a little about your seeing him that day. How awesome! I love reminders like this.. Thanks also for your comment about the church plant. I promise to take pictures this Sunday! :) We miss you guys!
Hi Scott,
He was there again this morning when I drove by.
What a wonderful feeling he instills.
